the ellwood (ell + Woody) story

Woody began his love for riding at a young age. Although he never took an interest in racing, he spent most of his younger days trail riding in the bush. Once he was old enough to get a licence, he took an interest in adventure riding. This led him to spend many years and thousands of kilometres riding unsupported to some of the most remote and isolated parts of Australia. The passion continued when he was lucky enough to land a job as a motorcycle tour guide in Cape York in 2006.

Since a young age Ellyse has been riding motorcycles and when she begged her Dad to take her to the local motocross track she found her love for racing. During her career she has had some major achievements competing at a national level in many women’s motocross events and in 2018 took the top spot on the podium winning the inaugural women’s class of the Finke Desert race. Her passion also led her to become a qualified off-road motorcycle coach. She spent many years coaching women from beginner to advanced levels at women’s off-road coaching events all over the country before finding her love of adventure and trail riding.

Ellyse and Woody met when Ellyse joined a tour Woody was leading up in Cape York and have been inseparable ever since. With their combined experience and passion for motorcycling and travel Ellwood Motorcycle Adventures was born.

Since the company started they have had a vision to take people on an experience of a lifetime by hand picking the best tracks and trails possible and travelling to their most favourite and special destinations on the planet in a fun and safe environment for all motorcycle lovers to enjoy no matter what level of experience.

Meet the Team

  • Leroy

    Guide / Mechanic / First Aid

    Leroy is Ellyse’s brother, hailing from NSW with a deep-rooted passion for riding that began when he was just four years old. Formerly employed in the mines, he now thrives as a support truck driver and guide with the Ellwood crew. Leroy’s presence ensures a journey filled with chilled beers and endless laughter. If you’re fortunate to have him on your tour, Leroy’s camp oven roasts are legendary. His warmth, humor, and knack for creating unforgettable memories make him an indispensable part of any adventure with Ellwood.

  • Gordo

    Workshop Manager / Mechanic

    Gordo (Flash), has been a part of the Ellwood crew since the very start. Like us all he lives and breathes bikes. Most weekends you’ll most likely find him ripping around FNQ somewhere either on his Harley or in the bush on his Suzuki DR650. He is the ultimate all rounder. One minute he is working on bikes, the next he is prepping all the equipment between tours or even on occasion out in the support vehicle. He is the main man behind the scenes that keeps the wheels turning.

  • Don

    Don is a Taree boy, born and bred, and has always had a love for motorbikes. Mechanicing runs through his blood as he grew up watching and helping his dad tinker with bikes and cars. He is a natural addition to the Ellwood team as he is a qualified motorbike mechanic with many years experience under his belt. Having already explored much of Australia; he is keen to embark on new adventures with the Ellwood crew leveraging his mechanical expertise while pursuing his passion of motorbikes. 

  • Gav

    Guide / Mechanic / First Aid

    Gav hails from Orange NSW and brings with him some country boy charm with the most incredible infectious smile you’ve seen!

    Gav has worked outback on remote stations and has been riding his whole life, he has some impressive bike and mechanic skills and absolutely killer cooking skills, all round package!

    He fits into the Ellwood Family like nothing else and we are super proud of Gav
